By knowing the hows, we can visualise the user journey.

However, it does not mean that thinking towards how rather than why is useless. This project really opens my mind back up on to thinking more towards the thinking why rather than how.īy knowing whys, we can understand the problem user faced. “ How big is the room, how many students are there in the class, or what is the colour scheme?” But there was still some questions that I will always ask, for eg. I had lost this ability since I was working as an in-house designer who basically did very similar tasks everyday. Asking wrong questions leads to wrong solutions. I did have some experience with designing things.Īsking questions is actually the most important thing. I was an industrial designer prior to joining GA’s UXDI. I will definitely brush up on my graphics design skill by next project, because any good idea would still need a presentable look.Īfter going through UX design cycle, I find it to be relatively similar to product design cycle. It was very easy to use, I just re-drew some of my wireframes and managed to have at least a working prototype. Thankfully, I had learnt of a mobile app POP by Marvel.

I was very puzzled by its command and I did waste some time trying to figure out how to use it.

I did not really make good use of rapid prototyping software Sketch. This app was meant for casual users who currently do not have time for their usual workout routine. I do not want to scare the users with overly complicated fitness trackers. They wanted something fast and easy to work on right away. I wanted something to have no login page at the start because simply the user do not need it. In the end, the design came out really simple. But well, I tried and made as much mistakes as possible. I was not very good in terms of UI layout design. Then I proceed with sketching some of UX wireframes. I would definitely go back to the previous step to affirm my user flow in my next project whenever I am stuck with the wireframe. I did not go back and forth with wireframes and user flows. While recalling this part of my design journey, I did not perform so well. Then I went through a simple version of a user flow chart to allow me to visualise better on how the user will approach the app. It had to be easy to use, quick to use and give the user a feeling of satisfaction.

Then I began to write down some of my ideas on how the app should be. We believe that by creating a mobile app that provide short exercise suggestion for people with limited time, we will make exercise routine more accessible and easier to begin. This solution was to provide them with short alternative exercises. With a clear problem statement, I can see the solution to this issue(not exercising while during on travelling) much clearly. Through the findings, I crafted the problem statement which will prove to be very useful for me to focus on providing the user with solutions. Problem Statement - People who are busy need an alternative shorter exercise for workout because they are lacking of time. It had to be an app to suggest users indoor exercise and it should be able to change the timer to fit the user.

Therefore, I decided to focus my app on something easy, fast and no complicated details. I find that to be extremely narrow, and actually it was due to a circumstances(overseas and time limitations) that were different from your usual routine that cause users to not able to exercise. The issue that my course mate had gave me was about not being able to work out while travelling. It was due to them not being able to make best out of the limited time they have. The only issue they faced was that when they are busy, they do not exercise at all. After doing affinity mapping, I realised that actually all of the users have a clear plan of their routine and they knew that exercising makes them healthy and happier. At the start, I was thinking about the solution to be something like most fitness tracker app does, which was to drill a mindset into the users. Because it really helps me understand the user better. Affinity mapping was really the most important tool which helped me to understand the problem of most users and the motivations behind their actions.
